Streamroot Privacy Policy effective starting May 25, 2018
Streamroot, Inc. (“Streamroot”) is committed to protecting the privacy of its users, its customers and their users (“Viewers”), and its website visitors (hereinafter shall collectively referred to as “Users”). This policy is intended to inform Users of our policies and practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information received through our website, portal and through websites operated by our customers who use our services. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into, and considered a part of, the Streamroot Website Terms and Conditions.
Streamroot collects and processes data in accordance and in compliance with the Law, and in the following cases:
- when necessary for the performance of a contract to which
- the individual whose data is processed (the “data subject”) is a party;
- when there is a legal obligation to do so (such as the submission of employee data to a tax authority);
- when the data subject provides their express consent to processing retaining their data;
- when there is a legitimate interest in processing the data, which outweighs any
detriment to the privacy of the data subject.
1. Definitions
The Portal – the web portal found at dashboard.streamroot.io, or any other URL the Company chooses to use for its customer interface.
The Website – the Streamroot website available at www.streamroot.io, including the Streamroot blog, available at blog.streamroot.io, support.streamroot.io, or any other URL the Company chooses to use for its official website, technical documentation and blog, and including the Portal.
Viewers – users viewing content using Streamroot-enabled streams distributed by Streamroot’s customers.
2. Streamroot Website
Streamroot automatically collects information about visits to our Website, in order to improve user experience, our product and our offering. We may collect this data on our own, or by using trusted third-parties, as detailed below.
Such information may include, inter alia, the browser used, referring site, and the time and date of each web request. We collect this information to understand how visitors use our Websites. We also collect traffic data, such as IP addresses, cookie data and other tracking information as described in this Privacy Policy.
We also collect information you provide to us such as your name, title, company, email address and phone number, and any additional information you choose to provide when you contact us or request a trial account using one of the contact forms available on our Website (“Contact Details”).
3. Streamroot Portal
Streamroot receives Information including but not limited to username, name, e-mail address, and phone number from its customers, concerning their employees that use our Portal. We process this information, including a password, as it is needed to identify Portal users and verify their authorization for using the Portal. Portal users on the same customer account may have access to each other’s email addresses and related information.
4. Streamroot Service – Statistical Information Collection and Use
Streamroot automatically computes and records anonymous information from Streamroot-enabled players on Viewers’ devices such as IP address, bandwidth, video quality data and other media player statistical information, as well as browser, operating system and firmware type. Streamroot does not purposely link such information to any personally identifiable information.
Streamroot uses the collected information for the following general purposes:
- to match, enable and optimize peer-to-peer connections among Viewers;
- for R&D purposes:
- to enhance Viewers’ video viewing experience and improve our services;
- to conduct research, and provide anonymous analytical reporting for our customers.
Data retained for R&D purposes is kept on a secured message broker for a limited period of time, allowing other R&D services to pull the data for further analysis. All of these services aggregate the data along various dimensions and exclude IP information when ingesting the data, guaranteeing anonymity.
We may share statistical, anonymous, aggregated information with our business customers and partners, including companies that provide certain services on our behalf, and as part of a publication of a research and / or an article.
5. Newsletter
Occasionally, Streamroot shares company news and product information via our newsletter, which we send out to subscribers on our mailing list. Apart from you e-mail address, our mailing list may include personal details such as your name, your country and your company name. This information is kept on our CRM and newsletter tools – SalesForce, MailChimp and Sendgrid. You may reach out to us for information about your personal details, to rectify or to ask to remove your personal details and to unsubscribe from our mailing list at any point, by contacting dpo@streamroot.io.
Streamroot only sends our newsletter to subscribers who have actively subscribed to our newsletter, and have expressed their consent to receiving emails from us. If you are receiving our newsletter and do not recall expressing such consent please contact us at dpo@streamroot.io.
6. Data Retention & Security
Streamroot undertakes appropriate security measures to protect data so as to guard against unauthorized access to personal data. Portal users are responsible for safeguarding their username and password. We take reasonable efforts to backup data and distribute it among geographically dispersed data centers in case of catastrophic failure.
Unless they become a customer, a person’s Contact Details are typically kept for up to 2 years from when first received . If a User chooses to subscribe to our mailing list, we will retain their details until requested otherwise by the User.
R&D logs are kept in an aggregated, anonymized format, from the moment they are generated for as long as they are deemed necessary for R&D purposes.
Portal user information is retained for 24 hours from Portal account termination, unless otherwise agreed to with our customers and partners.
7. Personal Information and Sharing Disclosure
Streamroot does not sell, rent, or share personal information with other people or non-affiliated companies except to provide services requested by the owner of that personal information, when we have their permission.
In addition, we may disclose information under the following circumstances:
- When we respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.
- When we believe in our sole discretion it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent or take actions against illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of the term of use of Streamroot or as otherwise required by law.
- When we need to transfer information if Streamroot is acquired by or merged with another company.
8. Links to Other Sites
The Website contains links to other sites that are not owned or controlled by Streamroot. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every Website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies only to information collected by this Website.
9. Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your computer upon your visit on certain websites. The text file can be read by the website and will help identify you when you return to the website.
Our Website uses cookies to understand how people use our Website in order for us to improve it. We use cookies mainly to analyse our Website and marketing campaigns’ performance and analytics, but also to provide our Portal users a better experience by allowing access to the portal without re-entering the user’s username or password. These cookies and similar technologies collect information on how users interact with our Website and enable us to improve our users’ and visitors’ experience. Third parties engaged by Streamroot to process personal data must: (i) comply with the applicable US, EU & Swiss data protection law(s) for transfers and processing of personal data; (ii) or agree to provide adequate protections for the personal data that are no less protective than those set out in this Policy.
These third parties may also collect statistical information described above about Website visitors, Portal users and customers’ online activities over time and across different websites when you visit our Website and/or Portal. Streamroot may change these providers from time to time at its own discretion, and shall make the appropriate changes in this Privacy Policy accordingly. 11. Changing or Removing personal Information from our database
You may, at any given time, revoke the consent to use and store your information and exercise your right of access, correction, cancellation and opposition as provided by law by contacting us at dpo@streamroot.io.

This policy may be updated from time to time for any reason, at our sole discretion. We will notify any significant changes to this policy and changes to the way we use personal information by posting the new policy on our website and by email, if applicable. You are advised to consult this policy regularly for any changes.
